Stops in order
100 Lane, Nanchang Road · No. 2 Old Yuyangli
Start here. Chen Duxiu's residence in 1920, where the founding group of the Chinese Communist Party first met. The door is unremarkable; a small bronze plaque on the lane wall is the only marker.
84 Yandang Road
Former home of Ye Gongchuo, a 1933 French-style apartment building. The ground floor is now a Western restaurant; the upper floors are still residential. The cast-iron entrance canopy is original.
1 Gaolan Road
The former residence of warlord Zhang Xueliang — a three-storey Spanish-style villa. The plane trees out on Gaolan Road were planted in 1932, well over 90 years old now. Gaolan Road runs along the west wall of Fuxing Park; you can step straight into the park from here.
Fuxing Park
Opened in 1909, designed by French landscape architect Jean Borchet. Old men play Chinese chess on the east side of the central lawn, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
73 Sinan Road · Zhou's Residence
Endpoint. The 1946 Shanghai office of the Chinese Communist Party — Zhou Enlai and Dong Biwu both lived here. Free to enter; there's a well in the back courtyard said to have been used to hide documents.
